USG Meeting - 19h15 Thursday 19 February 2009

The next meeting of the Urban Space Group will now be held in the Cavalier Suite of the Royal Hotel on Thursday 19 February 2009 and will start at 19h15.

Main items:

The Mere and Oliver's Mount - Presentation from Alex Richards on the new Master Plan for the area. This will be the last opportunity for you to comment on these proposals before the final report is submitted to the SBC Cabinet.

In response to feedback already obtained in the public consultations held in May last year, and subject to the necessary funding, the master plan proposes the provision of a mix of natural space, woodland meadows, walks, cycle trails and bridleways, visitor centre and water sports such as angling and rowing. As stated in the Master Plan Information Note, it also 'identifies areas for commercial type development opportunities such as the possible creation of an extreme sports centre, hotel and eco-lodges to support the community element...' and 'will also meet the aspiration of providing a green corridor from the proposed Middle Deepdale development into the town.'

Further details regarding the master plan can be found by clicking on the following link:

Saturday's Scarborough Evening News report on the proposals can be found at:

SEN - 07 Feb 2009 - The Mere & Oliver's Mount

Everyone is encouraged to attend the meeting as this really will be your last realistic opportunity to discuss these proposals with Alex before the final report is drafted. If there are any detailed issues you would like to raise, Alex would appreciate it if you could forward any such questions to myself before the meeting, so that we may provide Alex with a little time to prepare an appropriate response in advance.

Fantasy Forest - Revised plans for the signage and lighting on 'Fantasy Forest' have now been submitted and are available for viewing. You may remember that as a result of our comments on the previous proposals, the submission was withdrawn for further consideration. The opportunity has now arisen for us to judge if this latest version is an improvement!

Details of the application can be found on the Council's planning portal by clicking on the following link:

09/00185/AA - Olympia Buildings - Foreshore Road

As the application was submitted only last week, comments to the USG on the design will be considered up to and including the date of our next meeting in March.

In addition to the principal agenda items, there will also be opportunity to hear updates on the following:

1. Station Square consultation process
2. CABE SpaceShapers - area adjacent to Woodland Ravine bridge
3. CABE SEA-Change proposals
4. Outer Harbour Design Competition
5. Sandybed Court
6. Housing Strategy
